Is 2023’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare III going to be doomed like MWII?
RalphsValve has got a pretty nice track record, if not a perfect one, when it comes to sharing major updates on new CoD projects. He’s earned a reputation of coming up with near-accurate intel regarding in-development titles. Following a long break from Twitter, he recently made a return with a cryptic tweet that seemingly hinted towards Treyarch’s 2024 Black Ops installment.
However, the insider came back with yet another tweet the next day. Fortunately, we were able to capture it the moment it was posted on Twitter. Within 3o seconds, Ralph ended up deleting it, without explaining any reason. The leaked information revealed by him is something fans of this year’s rumored Call of Duty Modern Warfare III won’t feel positive about. Have a look at the deleted tweet below:

To put it simply, Ralph has claimed that 2023’s upcoming premium offering, being developed mainly by Sledgehammer Games, “is in a bad spot”. It implies that players who were expecting to see a promising entry from Activision, after getting disappointed with Vanguard, shouldn’t have high hopes for this year as well. Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare II, launched in 2022, has been mostly underwhelming too.
To make matters worse, Sledgehammer has been criticized by most of the players due to failing in impressing them with Vanguard. And now, it’s rumored to be the leading developer for 2023’s game. Last year, speculations were floating online that the ongoing title in Modern Warfare II would receive an expensive DLC. It was going to continue the game’s story forward while being a $70 expansion.

However, Activision had already made it clear that there was never a plan to extend MWII for two years. It was made evident as the publisher revealed its intention to continue the strategy of giving a new, standalone game in 2023 as well. But it’s still expected to be a sequel to the current installment – and is receiving the name Modern Warfare III.
