The FPS gaming community is up for something big. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is set to release on 10th November, bringing in the 20th title of the successful series. The upcoming title is a remake of the successful original COD: MW3. While there are very few details on the upcoming release, the devs dropped a new trailer for the game.
The Call of Duty series is known for its action-packed FPS gameplay, featuring a zombie mode twist. With the reboot’s inclusion of all 16 maps from the original MW2, players can expect new maps that they can vote for while matchmaking for a game. The upcoming title also promises the return of old weapons as well as some new ones. While the game is yet to be released, the folks at ESRB have already given the game a rating.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board was ahead of time to rate Call of Duty. In a recent summary of the game on their website, they mentioned that they had rated the game as M, indicating its intended audience as mature individuals above the age of 17. Given that the main objective of the game has always been to shoot down enemies, it is no surprise that the game received an M rating.

The ESRB summary of Call of Duty states that it received an M rating due to graphic violence, the presence of a Zombie mode, instances of dismemberment, drug references, and the use of strong language. When it comes to the gameplay, most of the elements revolve around gun violence and war. Most of the visuals and gameplay aspects can be detrimental to the mental health of younger gamers.
In Call of Duty, more intense acts of violence are depicted. These include terrorists taking over an airplane. Furthermore, terrorists dressed as police officers and paramedics shoot and kill fleeing civilians inside a stadium concourse in some scenes. The game also shows the shooting of airline passengers on a plane, as well as prisoners being shot inside a cell. During combat and cutscenes, the game also features the use of explicit words, including strong language.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III brings back Zombie mode
Zombie mode is one of the most distinct features of the Call of Duty series. This mode brings back zombies into the mostly believable universe that the COD series portrays. This inclusion of Zombies in the series started back in 2008 with the release of Call of Duty: World At War.

Recently the devs at Activision uploaded a Cinematic trailer of the the zombie mode in the upcoming game. The zombie mode was first implemented to switch things up with the monotony of shooting players in the game and give players a chance to cooperate over these missions. With the inclusion of zombies, comes the horrific creatures chasing players from the game into some nightmares.
In the new mode of Call of Duty, players need to fight zombies and perform finishing attacks that often result in decapitation and/or dismemberment of enemies. These actions are accompanied by large blood-splatter effects. This adds to the reason for the mature rating from the ESRB.

Most players mostly ignore these ratings when making decisions about what age is suitable for playing the game.
