Activision has recently added tons of elements to Call of Duty Modern Warfare II with Season 5. Apart from the maps, modes, and Operators, the update has also revealed, for the first time, a Tactical Pet. Well, it’s a dog named Merlin.
The dog comes with a new Operator, Arthur, who’s part of the BlackCell Battle Pass. Simply put, players who will buy this premium content in the current season will be able to own not just the playable character but also Merlin. Lately, however, the all-new Tactical Pet has attracted some not-so-cute reactions from those who believe that having this dog in MWII offers an unfair edge. Obviously, there’s a big reason for why many fans are upset with the devs for introducing the Tactical Pet.

In case anyone missed keeping track of events, the latest season was released earlier this week. It brings numerous refinements in movement and overall gameplay. When it comes to the Battle Pass, its BlackCell content has expanded further with attractive rewards. Among them is also the Operator named Arthur. But he’s also got a dog strapped to his belt, for company.
To begin with, Merlin was initially seen as a Tactical Pet, who performs a finishing move for the Operator. But now, many Call of Duty Modern Warfare II players have expressed a distaste towards this addition in Season 5. According to what the makers have revealed, on social media, it seems like Merlin has got a pay-to-win ability. Basically, the dog can alert its owner during a game when an enemy is hiding as a camper or enters a player’s surroundings.

Per the official description from Call of Duty, Merlin provides a “High Alert Perk”. Hence, a player owning the Operator of Arthur can use the Tactical Pet in order to hear the its growls whenever an opponent is nearby.
Fans are not happy with Merlin’s growls
Meanwhile, a lot of players on social media have accused the devs of giving a pay-to-win feature to those who can buy the $30 BlackCell Battle Pass in order to access the High Alert Perk. People are calling it an unfair advantage in the game.
It alerts when enemies are nearby. We (My friends I play with I ain’t buying NOTHING) use it in Ranked. None of us use High Alert. It’s 100% Pay to Win.

Some are saying that the makers are desperate to sell the costly BlackCell and that’s why they are adding paid features.
Pathetic pay to win shit. This game knows no bounds when it comes to how low they will stoop for a quick £$€

I find it funny the desperation to try to sell the black cell

Other people have simply mocked the devs for increasing the presence of pay-to-win elements in CoD games.
