The Call of Duty series has witnessed a lot of ups and downs in the last four years. From being the most popular action franchise to being among the most divisive ones due to some of the most recently released installments. However, given the fact that it’s probably one of its kind and there’s no actual competition to Activision’s billion-dollar IP, it keeps bouncing back to becoming relevant and trending.

But there are still many players who think the FPS series has actually lost its sheen in 2023. Especially after the launch of Vanguard and now 2022’s Modern Warfare II and its battle royale extension in Warzone 2. A lot of fans recently expressed their honest feelings towards the ongoing games from Activision and how they have lost many players in the last few months.

There’s been a lot of disappointment for the franchise shown recently after figures from SteamCharts revealed Warzone 2’s fast-decreasing popularity. Going by the website’s stats, the game has lost a vast amount of players since its November 16 launch in 2022. Initially, it had a concurrent player count of nearly half a million. But that has now reached between 100k to 130k. Basically, the downfall has been quite shocking the way it has turned out to be.

Considering the figures and reactions from a lot of players, one YouTuber recently expressed his emotions on Twitter regarding Call of Duty. The user, who’s named ChainFeeds, wrote in his tweet that it’s probably the first time the series has lost so many players in a short duration due to their disinterest in its newest entries (Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2).

Meanwhile, other gaming enthusiasts also echoed mostly similar sentiments. They mentioned that the devs have removed a lot of classic, beloved features that were key reasons for making Call of Duty enjoyable. “They took away so many things that made COD good, reload & slide cancelling being two main ones, the UI is trash & overall feel of the game is tacky, so much room for improvement but already feels like they don’t really care, also the battle pass was complete a*sehole,” wrote one angry user.
