Ever since Call of Duty Modern Warfare II made its anticipated debut, loyal fans have endlessly asked for the Hardcore Mode. The fan-favorite content was notably absent from the blockbuster title at launch. However, developer Infinity Ward surprised the players, a few days ago, by revealing that it will finally arrive when Season 2 makes its way next month.
Interestingly, the update regarding Hardcore’s arrival was shared just a few days after the studio dropped details about Season 2, including Resurgence’s comeback in Warzone 2 and Ranked Play for Multiplayer. Seems like the devs are actually trying to deliver what the players really want. Without a doubt, the return of Hardcore Mode is something that will make the biggest difference. Especially when it comes to keeping Modern Warfare II’s Multiplayer experience alive. Shockingly, it will also eventually shut down an existing realism mode.

As promised last week, Infinity Ward just recently unveiled the blog for MWII and Warzone 2. It focuses on what’s about to arrive with February’s Season 2 update. While there are many new changes to look forward to, the Multiplayer setup is actually receiving a major overhaul. Tier 1 (or realism) mode, which was initially revealed with the release of the game, is eventually going to be removed. Yes, it’s now confirmed by the devs in the latest official blog.
While mentioning what players of Multiplayer can expect in the next season, the devs clearly stated that “Hardcore mode is returning to MWII. Hardcore will replace the Tier 1 mode. We are excited for fans to have this franchise favorite back in the mix for Season 02.”
Simply put, the two modes won’t be coexisting. Only Hardcore will remain now in Call of Duty Modern Warfare II. Well, this decision makes a lot of sense. Given the fact that Tier 1 has been more or less a divisive offering. While few players have liked it, most of the users have remained frustrated. There have been tons of problems for them in figuring out how to actually make the best use of it.
