Following the awaited release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, it seems like the console war between PlayStation and Xbox has also escalated even further.

PlayStation just revealed Call of Duty Modern Warfare II to be a massive success after its anticipated debut last week. So much so that the game has become the biggest CoD entry so far, for Sony’s consoles.
Modern Warfare II is the biggest PlayStation Store launch in the Call of Duty franchise
While it was expected to be a mega hit on the PlayStation platform, the latest installment in the iconic saga has opened in a spectacular fashion to say the least. This is what Sony has recently revealed on Twitter.
The official account for PlayStation shared a big news online while mentioning that Modern Warfare II is the biggest launch, for Sony’s consoles, in the history of the first-person-shooter franchise. “Congratulations to @InfinityWard and @Activision on the biggest PlayStation Store launch EVER for a Call of Duty game (including preorders and day one sales).“

This tweet came at a time when the war between Xbox and PlayStation is on a different level altogether. Due to Microsoft’s proposed acquisition of Call of Duty publisher Activision, Sony has been very concerned.

Moreover, PlayStation’s Jim Ryan has been trying to make efforts to prevent the deal from getting approved by different regulatory bodies. With the recent tweet, it’s quite clear that Sony is trying to show how much important of an IP Call of Duty is for its consoles. And also to prove its supremacy in comparison to the Xbox.

It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft will come up with a counter tweet or not, indirectly taking a dig at Sony. All things considered, though, Call of Duty seems to be in the focus of everyone right now.
