Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is almost here now. Following a long wait, they will soon witness the arrival of Sledgehammer’s brand new FPS premium from Activision. Interestingly, though, the rumors regarding a future installment beyond the rebooted trilogy have now surfaced on the internet – even before MWIII has released.

Thanks to a media interaction with Infinity Ward’s narrative director, it appears as if the makers have already started to look beyond the upcoming title. In short, one should not expect Modern Warfare 3 to be an end to the ongoing trilogy. It’s because it will probably continue to push the Modern Warfare brand beyond one’s imagination!

Infinity Ward’s Brian Bloom had sat down with a news website months ago, talking about the future of COD. He discussed how the original trilogy ended with 2011’s MW3. However, when it comes to the rebooted franchise, he revealed that it will eventually extend beyond 2023’s Modern Warfare 3.

Bloom said that there’s a scope of characters in the ongoing series to evolve further. Which means that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s events won’t necessarily conclude the individual arcs of various iconic characters.

“We think of character arcs as going one way, but they can also fall off their arc, they can go backwards, people can evolve and devolve,” he told The Washington Post. “All these things, they offer rich, fertile ground to tell stories, and that’s not going to stop. In fact, I would say we’re just getting started.”

What’s there for fans in Modern Warfare 3?

Speaking of 2023’s title, it will boast of various surprises for all the players. Firstly, the Multiplayer will consist of a much better gameplay experience, compared to MWII from last year. It will have classic movement mechanics alongside an increased pacing in online matches. Moreover, fans will see the return of 16 remastered maps from 2009’s Modern Warfare 2. Players who have grown up with classic titles will get to revisit iconic areas like Rust, Favela, Derail, Highrise, Karachi, and Afghan among many others.

Then, there’s also the Zombies mode. Being an open-world experience, it will follow a PvE format. Players will need to team up together or go solo against massive hordes of the undead. The map of Urzikstan will act as the main setting for this mode. MW3 will be the first time fans will see the undead in a Modern Warfare game.

Lastly, there’s the traditional Campaign that will see the return of characters like Captain Price, Ghost, Gaz, and Alex, among others. It will also receive a unique feature called open-combat missions.
