Call of Duty features arguably some of the most memorable video game characters of all time. When it comes to the most beloved personalities, however, there’s simply no one like Simon “Ghost” Riley. Since his first appearance in the FPS franchise, this character has kept the fans hooked, thanks to his mysterious identity. Which comes from his now-iconic skull faced mask. Now the question is, with MW3 soon to release, is it time for the mask to come off?

It’s been nearly 14 years now that Ghost has remained undetected as far as revealing his real face is concerned. The original trilogy didn’t see it happening in 2009’s MW2. And now, the rebooted franchise is also witnessing a similar pattern. Last year’s Modern Warfare II almost showed Ghost’s actual face towards the end of the Campaign. Now, the ardent fans will be hoping for this mystery to get solved with Modern Warfare 3.

Since his introduction in Activision‘s action saga, more than a decade ago, Ghost has kept his appearance a secret. Unlike his teammates, he’s not one to show his true face to everyone – no matter what. The particular choice of design for the balaclava could be to instill fear in enemies. Or it could be to hide battle scars. One thing is for sure, he wants to keep his identity concealed. Maybe it’s because of his commitment to keep the people around him safe; probably his family members. Revealing his identity may result in devastating consequences.

He is still one of the most adored characters in the history of Call of Duty. Only Captain Price comes before him in terms of having a massive fan base. So it becomes obvious for hardcore Ghost fans to expect their hero to unveil his original self. Sadly, it hasn’t happened yet.

However, Modern Warfare 3 may or may not break this pattern. In case the game’s Campaign ends up having a shocking twist where Ghost is caught in a world-ending scenario, he may eventually lift that skull-faced mask. Interestingly, 2009’s MW2 featured Ghost’s death as well. But that’s something fans won’t hope to see happening once again.

Who’s the voice actor of Ghost in Modern Warfare 3?

Popular English actor and DJ Samuel Roukin plays the latest iteration of Simon “Ghost” Riley in Modern Warfare franchise. He made his Call of Duty debut with 2022’s Modern Warfare II. He will come back to reprise the role in this year’s Modern Warfare 3.
