The Internet has been waiting eagerly for Naughty Dog Amarica’s upcoming installment in their renowned The Last of Us series. This new game is reported to stray from the previously established single-player formula of the franchise and offer an online/ multiplayer FPS experience.
While the fans are highly anticipating this new game, and the developers constantly promise a lot of new things, a new report has revealed that the current version of the game lacks the scope and ability to keep the players engaged. As a result of a lack of experience in the genre, Sony has appointed a new player for the game’s supervision, Bungie.

This move aims to use Bungie’s expertise and track record in the multiplayer gaming genre to enhance the project’s overall quality. By bringing in a seasoned studio like Bungie, Sony hopes to address the concerns raised and ensure a much more engaging title for veterans and new fans of the series.
According to a recent Bloomberg article, former HALO developer Bungie has reportedly played a role in reassessing The Last of Us multiplayer game. Bungie raised concerns about the project’s ability to maintain player engagement over an extended period of time, resulting in a complete re-haul of the previously laid out plans.
This collaboration between Bungie and Naughty Dog may seem unexpected, but it was teased ever since Sony’s plan to acquire Bungie in January 2022. Sony’s intention was for Bungie to oversee its live service endeavors, and the concept of an ‘SIE Live Service Centre of Excellence’ was introduced after the acquisition announcement.

Bungie was brought in to evaluate Naughty Dog’s project, and their assessment could have inspired more confidence. But the result wasn’t as positive as the executives have planned. Getting the results of the assessments, Sony has halted the project and is now reevaluating its direction.
