The newly launched open-world RPG game based on the wizarding world, Hogwarts Legacy, is not very similar to the world-renowned movies. Even though based on works of the same author, the game is very different from the movies, as it presents a brand new unexplored avenue that had been left undiscussed in the mainstream big-screen adaptations.
The Harry Potter movies shifted the narrative of the books to suit the need of the wider audience and adapt it to feature-length movies. But this resulted in some details to be left in the final product to be left in the development process, which the game picked up upon and delivered respectfully.

The difference between the game and the movies will be felt right off the bat, as loyal fans will soon notice that one of the most criticized houses in the movies, Slytherin, is not portrayed as villains in the game. Where the movies heavily portrayed Slytherin as a vile hot pot of bad guys, Hogwarts Legacy tackled the house with respect.

In the game, Slytherin students are shown as heroic, brave, and as very loyal companions. Another thing that players will notice in the beginning is the location of the iconic wand shop, Ollivanders. In the movies, the shop’s location was shown to be in Diagon Alley, but in the game, it was changed to be in the village of Hogsmeade.

It appropriately played its part as a starting area for the game and at the same time had lore implications. As the game is based on the past, in the time period of the source novels, it could be speculated that the ancestors of the Ollivanders had a shop in the village of Hogsmeade.
Another big thing that is both new and irritating to some players is the Alohamora mini-game. While in the movies, wizards could simply open locks with a jolt of their wands. In Hogwarts Legacy, players have to solve elaborate puzzles to open locks. These puzzles are so difficult and frequent that some players have stated that it has ruined their experience with the game.

Lastly, and probably one of the most obvious changes in the movies and games, is the application of the spell Wingardium Leviosa. In the game, there is another variant of the spell that can be seen, called Levioso. It has the same implication as the former, except here the conjurer can use the spell to suspend another person or object in the air without any motion.
