The trailer revealed storyline changes, new locations, and of course, deadly fatalities. This reboot continues the story of Liu Kang as the protector of Earthrealm and God of Fire. Along with the reveal of the extended gameplay, Ed Boon himself came out to talk more about the upcoming title.

Boon revealed the new universe created by Liu Kang is not like the earlier universe. Although characters from the earlier timeline are returning, their roles are different from before. Boon told, “This is the beginning of a new timeline. A number of these characters you have seen before but they are told in a completely different story”.

One more interesting reveal in this extended gameplay was the cameo appearances of other characters during the fight. The developers are calling this Kameo Fighters. Players now have the option of combining their primary fighter with a Kameo fighter. With a push of a button, players can call forward their Kameo fighter to assist their main character.

There will be a meter that will limit the usage of the secondary fighter. “Some of the characters are available as Kameo as well as the main roster,” Boon said, “But a lot of our Kameo fighters are like a nod back to our first games”.
