Romance is a big part of Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian’s latest title has players in a frenzie after its release. Despite not having a metacercaria at release, Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t seem to care as fans are scurrying to play the game for themselves. Now as players spend more time in the Dungeons & Dragons-inspired game, romance seems to be a central theme that also has a lot of impact on player progression. With a “Strong sexual content” tag from the ESRB, Baldur’s Gate 3 may need you to be discreet at times.

With so much to take in, here are some tips on choosing your romantic partners in Baldur’s Gate 3.

It looks like romance is a complicated affair and can often become messy. Characters need to balance a number of relationships simultaneously. Furthermore, maintaining these can become tricky as you need to make sure you don’t offend your allies. With allies displaying opposing ideologies, players need to focus on establishing better relationships with one or two allies instead of trying to win everyone’s approval at the same time.

From what we’ve gathered, there are three parts to romance in Baldur’s Gate 3. The first would be the player’s approval rating with the ally in question. Opening the inventory through the character portrait can show you the approval meter for any character at a time. Once you have enough approval from a character comes the second part, which is at least one conversation. A conversation may be initiated when the approval meter is in the green zone. It’ll be worth noting that choosing a wrong answer can block a romantic encounter, at least for a while.

If you manage to stay in their good books till after Act 1’s face-off between druids and goblins, then you can finally have another conversation with your ally back at the camp, which can lead to an intimate encounter.

There are a number of allies with whom you can engage in romantic relationships in Baldur’s Gate 3. Some of these include Astarion, Lae’zel, Gale, Shadowheart, Karlach, Halsin, Wyll, and Minthara. While others engage in such encounters after some serious conversation skills on your part, Minthara demands more sinister tasks to win her heart.

Astarion

Getting Astarion to engage in any sort of intimate relationship with you is a pretty standard run-of-the-mill seduction. You need to woo him with your words to get him interested in you. Coming up with the right answers can be a little dicey with Astarion as he doesn’t seem to have any particular set of answers to get involved with you, unlike many other characters from Baldur’s Gate 3. During your conversations with Astarion, you have to flirt and show your interest in him while reciprocating his interest in you.

These should be your consecutive responses in case you’re trying to bed Astarion.

  • Really? Saving lives is awful?
  • True, the goblins would have thrown a wilder party.
  • And what’s your idea of ‘a little fun’?
  • All right, let’s do it. I’ll see you later.

If you seek Astarion’s approval, you need to remember that he’s a typical aristocrat who loves to see others suffer for his amusement. Telling lies and deception are two great ways to increase his approval meter.

Shadowheart

Winning Shadowheart’s approval will require you to be a kind person in general. Being nice to children and the oppressed helps, as well as showing mercy to your foes. Being kind to animals is also a good way to make Shadowheart like you some more.

However weird it seems, making Novice Crusher kiss your foot seems to boost Shadowheart’s approval of you even more.

Lae’zel

Getting intimate with Lae’zel won’t require much work. In many ways, she’s similar to Astarion and has zero tolerance toward nonsense. During the celebration after rescuing the refugees, Lae’zel will approach you asking if she can get a whiff of your smell. You need to respond with “Are you… asking for sex?” And then agree to share your bed with her for the night.

In order to win Lae’zel’s approval, you need to display brutality, be unwilling to help people and be patient while Lae’zel talks with the Githyanki.

Gale

Gale is a character who will make you work to win his heart. A kind and sympathetic character, Gale is unwilling to engage in any short-term relationship. Giving him magical items will surely be a helpful act that will get him interested in you. Accepting Gale’s invitation to join him under the Weave after rescuing the refugees will get you closer to him. Then proceed to choose these options consecutively:

  • You’re a good teacher.
  • Hold on to the moment. It’s a good night for intimacy.
  • Picture kissing him.

After this, you will have to talk to him about magic lessons. There, bring back the topic from the previous encounter and Gale will come looking for more.

Minthara

Minthara is a considerably demonic character who will also require you to do some pretty extreme things to win her approval. Rating out on the druids is a good way to start in case you want to win her over. Interact with Minthara at Shattered Sanctum and tell her about the goblin attacks on Emerald Grove. During your next conversation, choose these options:

  • It’s been a privilege to fight alongside you.
  • Embrace the change.
  • Open your mind.

After the goblin camp party, you can interact with Minthara once again and tell her that you belong to her. This will allow for the option of asking Minthara to share your bed for the night.
