The most important item to perform this trick is the Pile of Cash item. It is a customizable miscellaneous furniture item introduced with the 2.0 update. Being a miscellaneous item, you can place it on either the ground or on the surfaces of tables and other similar furniture items that have a surface for items.

You can obtain this item from crafting, which requires 3× 99,000 Bells. The recipe for the Pile of Cash item can be obtained from snooty villagers. Interestingly, Pile of Cash is a very rare item and you might not be able to get your hands on the item for a month.
The Reddit user also confirmed that after obtaining the Pile of Cash item, they switched to The Bell Boom Ordinance and sold it to Timmy and Tommy. The Bell Boom Ordinance changes the number of Bells the player may receive from selling and the cost of buying items.
