Battlefield 2042 has had an awful release. The game is completely unfinished, lacks polish and key elements seen in previous titles, and by being riddled with game-braking bugs and glitches, it is downright unplayable. In fact, the title received a low user score of 2.2 on Metacritic.

However, it looks like this game is doing quite well on the fiscal and sales side of things.

Battlefield 2042’s impressive sales

Mat Piscatella, an industry expert associated with The NDP Group, took to a Twitter post to highlight some statistics. He also added the fact that Battlefield 2042 launched as the #2 best-selling game in the month of November.

This statistic is quite surprising. It goes to show that no matter how bad a title is developed, because of the brand name, fans will be sure to flock towards it and make the game a commercial success. These statistics set an unnerving precedent as well. These seem to imply that developers no longer need to work properly for the development of a game. They can just half-heartedly spin something up and, more often than not, the game will be a market success.

In fact, the game was so bad that its player count at the height of its release was less than that of Farming Simulator 2022. By all means, Farming Simulator is no bad title, but a juggernaut franchise such as Battlefield is expected to do better.

The reason for the high sales can mainly be attributed to the hype generated around the game prior to its launch. Battlefield 2042’s marketing was phenomenal and players thought they’d finally get the old and iconic Battlefield. The only thing keeping the game afloat as of now is the unique and engaging Portal mode. This mode offers the player more replay value.
