Developing a huge title like Baldur’s Gate 3 is quite difficult. The difficulty level reaches its peak when the titles have to be released on all platforms; like PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Mac. The Xbox Series S is known for its demanding hardware specifications. Implementing split-screen co-op on a platform like Series S is pretty challenging.

In the interview, Vincke explained the issues regarding incorporating the split screen co-op in Xbox Series S. He said, “It’s challenging.”

He has also said that there can be some “compromises” regarding the Xbox S version of the game. But according to him, the decision is yet to be made on the removal of the split-screen co-op as it is a vital aspect of the game. The team is determined to present a complete experience across all platforms without any compromises. However, they are not sure if the game can deliver optimal performance with the inclusion of split-screen co-op in the Xbox Series S.

Vincke said on the inclusion of split-screen co-op in Xbox S: “The team has been working hard on making it work, but they’re still working on it. And the problem with optimizations is that you finish one thing, and then a new one pops up. So here, we’re dealing with a situation where we just go through the motions.”

Split-screen co-op: a vital component of Baldur’s Gate 3

Vincke has made clear that split-screen co-op is an integral part of Baldur’s Gate 3. Removing it will also lead to the removal of the unique co-op missions.

Microsoft has demanded feature parity, so the exclusion of split-screen co-op from Xbox S means this co-op feature will be missed in Xbox X also. Therefore it will be a huge loss for the Xbox fans.
