Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Makes You Carefree About the Level Cap, but There’s a Twist

Gamers around the world are very familiar with mods. There are various types of mods available. In simple words, moderators can do whatever they want with the game. It basically changes the appearance and other aspects; it can’t change the mechanics, though. Some can make the cheap graphics turn into stunning ones; some can change the whole character base of the game; and some can help you surpass level caps.

Similarly, there is an exciting mod in Baldur’s Gate 3 that can ease your journey to a certain extent. So, what’s the mod all about? Let’s find out.

Level Cap Mod in Baldur’s Gate 3

This mod in Baldur’s Gate 3 allows you to reach level 20, ignoring the in-game level cap at level 12. But there is a twist. You have to use multiclass in order to surpass the level cap, as there is no single class that can be higher than level 12 in the game presently.

But there is a catch. After you outclass the level cap with the help of the mod, you may reach level 20, but the mod won’t help you get higher-level spells and abilities. The main reason is that there are no such higher-level spells and abilities available in the game at the moment. If you want them, you have to modify them separately.

There are some other facts we have to keep in mind as well. We have to take level 12 as our last level because the game will try to level up further beyond level 12, which will eventually cause the game to crash. So, in order to create a Level 12 Fighter/8 Barbarian, take up to 11 levels in the Fighter class, then all  8 levels in the Barbarian class, and only then level to 12 as a Fighter.

Another fact is that the multiclass spell slot table does not go beyond level 12. So even if you take 20 levels in casting classes, you will still get no more than 12 levels worth of spell slots.

Variants and Installation of this Mod

As of now, there are three variants of this mod.

1. Regular Leveling: This mod is for those who want to level up fairly. You will need the same amount of XP to level up from 13 to 20  as you did from 1 to 12. In this mode, you can level up to, like, 13 or 14, provided the maximum amount of XP is obtained.
2. Faster Leveling: This mod is for fast runners. In this mod, the xp required to level up beyond level 12 is half of what you need in 1–12. Higher XP in this one is more ‘lenient.’ In this mode, as the required XP is halved, you can easily reach level 18. You can go beyond that if you are able to squeeze out maximum XP.
3. Instant Level: This option is mainly for testing purposes and is not recommended for serious gameplay. In this mod, all it needs is 200 XP to reach level 20.

Installation: To install the mod, the following steps should be followed:

1. You have to download the mod file manually, not from any downloaders or managers.
2. Then put the file in the installation folder of the game (for Steam users, the folder name will be: steamapps/common/Baldur’s Gate 3).
3. After that, right-click on the file and extract it to that folder.
4. After extraction, the file will create the necessary folder structure, which should look like this:

Baldur’s Gate 3]/Data/Public/Shared/Stats/Generated/Data/XPData.txt
                       [Baldur’s Gate 3]/Data/Public/SharedDev/Stats/Generated/Data/XPData.tx

Installation is now complete; all you have to do is launch the game and enjoy. Just ignore the “warning message” in the Larian launcher.
