When you hear “Papa Smurf” you probably don’t visualize him in a Dungeons & Dragons setting. Video games today have come a long way and allow some crazy modifications. Character customization has become an integral part of every game. The ability to create a unique character that best suits a player is given a lot of importance these days.
Taking advantage of such a feature, one Baldur’s Gate 3 modder has created a character inspired by the elderly leader of the Smurfs. Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3 is topping charts just days after release, despite not having a Metascore. The player’s creative use of the feature is proof of how a lack of reviews isn’t stopping the community from having a blast already.

The modder has been inspired by the blue face we all know and love, Papa Smurf. The elderly character is the leader and protector of the Smurf village and lends his wisdom to the villagers as they try to keep themselves safe from the evil Gargamel. The modder used the character customization option of Baldur’s Gate 3 to recreate the iconic Smurf character and the community is amused by the results.
While the character doesn’t exactly replicate Papa Smurf’s looks, the inspiration is evident. Many fans complained that SugahFree_’s character has purple skin, which is not the color of Smurfs. Others were just glad to see their childhood character being referred to in Baldur’s Gate 3. To make things more relatable, the Redditor chose a dwarf character and decorated it with a white beard like Papa Smurf.
Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a ton of customization options
Almost all games today offer the option to customize characters. This not only showcases the visual prowess of the devs but also gives a more immersive experience to the players.
Being able to navigate the story of a game with a character that you created can be more rewarding compared to just finishing the game with a pre-built character. With such modification options, players can sometimes go to extreme lengths that highlight their creative thinking.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has 12 different classes, each with a number of different character attributes. Set 100 years after the events of Baldur’s Gate 2, the newest title in the franchise takes a deep dive into the lore of Dungeons & Dragons. Such a game should not really be the first place for a tiny blue-skinned creature who lives inside a forest mushroom. However, the Redditor’s character is a nice touch for older gamers who grew up watching the incessant battle of wits between the Smurfs and Gargamel.
