The legendary console has sold over 125 million units worldwide and has access to some of the most notable titles from the industry. Even though the Switch is now almost seven years old and is showing hardware wear, Nintendo is adamant that their popular console isn’t going anywhere just yet. With Switch 2 rumors floating around, new revelations have taken the gaming community by storm. Recent leaks suggest that the Nintendo Switch originally had plans to support 3D that were ultimately scrapped.

The news has made fans wild to know that their favorite console would’ve been much sophisticated than it currently is.

With games like Mario Kart and the Legend of Zelda, the Nintendo Switch is easily one of the most recognizable gaming consoles to fans. There is a big fanbase for these niche games who prefer their hand-held consoles over many other brands, such as the PlayStation of Xbox. Despite having many competitors in the market, the Switch still sales like hot cakes. As Nintendo hinted at a new Switch console to arrive shortly, Switch fans now look forward with renewed interest.

A recent revelation has suggested that the Switch could have more features that would make it a premium console. Switch’s predecessor, the Switch 3DS, had some pretty neat features that weren’t included in the current model. With functions such as the SpotPass (a feature that allowed the 3DS to detect nearby LAN signals and connect automatically) and StreetPass (connectivity options with other 3DS devices in close proximity), the 3DS was a major hit in the market. The recently revealed details about possible Switch features claims that these features were within the scope of the initial plans for the Switch.

What the future holds

The leak further suggests that the Switch was considered as a two-screen console, an idea that was also discarded at the final stages. Moreover, the two-screen device would have a display quality of 480p, whereas the Switch boasts a 720p display resolution. Nintendo also had early plans of including audio/video editing options on the Switch, which players could upload to Nintendo World. Adding a voice commentary option would’ve been great for mods, who would be busy for hours creating content.
