PlayStation 5 is indeed a very popular console. Since its launch, it has also become one of the most successful consoles of this generation. The console’s disc-less digital edition and model with a Blu-ray drive launched in 2020 and has already sold over 30 million units.

This success was made pretty evident by God of War: Ragnarok when it sold 5 million copies and became the bestselling PlayStation first-party title ever. Sony also saw a rise in the sale of digital copies of games. Maybe that’s why it decided to start working on a console that gave users the best of both worlds. A PlayStation 5 redesign that allowed users to add a detachable drive to it.

This model first came into light with some leaks last year, and now it is all but confirmed.

The new model would have everything that current models have. The only new feature would be the detachable disc drive. Fans have been pretty excited about this feature. During the shortage of stock back in 2020, many of them had to go for the digital-only version. This new detachable disc drive showed them a ray of hope.

They saw a possibility of adding a disc drive to their current digital version, but it appears Sony does not want that. A new tweet by Tom Henderson suggests that this detachable drive would not be supported by older digital-only models.

This might be pretty disappointing for a lot of PlayStation 5 users, but let’s be clear here, this is still not confirmed.
