Since its inception more than a decade ago, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series has gained an enormous popularity worldwide. Thanks to the characters depicted in its lore, fans have showered immense love on this evergreen franchise. Currently,, most of them are waiting for the next main installment later this year.
Apart from having different, scenic locations and amazing stealth-based experiences, this IP is also known for one more thing. It’s the never-ending bond of the protagonists with birds. Interestingly, there’s an even stranger connection of their names and the birds, throughout most of the AC entries!

Assassin’s Creed protagonists’ names mean ‘Birds of Prey’
For those who are not aware, there’s a reason for why the series has an extensive bird symbolism. While making the first-ever AC game, its creative team observed a very predatory nature of the Assassins.

Basically, it was similar to a bird of prey. Their instincts were akin to an eagle that initially studies its target before launching a quiet attack, remaining undetected. Eventually, the outfit of the assassins was designed in a way that resembled a bird; the pointed hood depicted the beak while the cloak represented feathers and the tail.

Well now, there’s one more mesmerizing fact that will stun Assassin’s Creed fans even more. It seems like most of the protagonists’ names in the open-world series translate to the name of a certain bird. On social media, an account known as Bunny_G69 recently highlighted this rare detail.

The Twitter account mentioned that the names of majority of AC characters mean “Birds of Prey”. For example, the name of the first assassin Altair translates to “The Bird”. Similarly, names of Ezio, Haytham, Arno, and Aguilar translate to Eagle. Also, Shay and Bayek’s names mean Hawk and Falcon respectively.

When is the next Assassin’s Creed coming out?
Ubisoft will release the thirteenth major installment in the series in late 2023. Named AC Mirage, the game is coming out on October 12. It will feature a new protagonist who’s known as Basim – first introduced in 2020’s Valhalla. The story is set in 9th-century Baghdad during the anarchy of Samarra.

Mirage will showcase Basim’s journey from a street thief to a fully-fledged member of the Assassin Brotherhood.
