Animal Crossing New Horizons is a social simulation game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch; it is the fifth main entry in the Animal Crossing series. The game had a huge impact at the time of its release during the horrific times of the Global pandemic in 2020.
The game brought hope for millions of fans as it gave them something to play and keep themselves distracted amidst the depression of the worldwide lockdown. The game is widely adored as a ray of sunshine and an everyday dose of wholesomeness by the community. But alas, after just a few years of its release, the game has started losing all its engagement.
Animal Crossing New Horizons can be saved, but the method won’t be very wholesome
Nintendo launched a huge update called “update 2.0” back on November 4, 2021. This update was the last update that animal crossing got from Nintendo. Then the support was almost stopped for the game. The community urged for something new, but the reality is Nintendo doesn’t have the manpower and motivation to do another free update for the game.
On November 08, 2022, YouTuber koramora Uploaded a video on her channel, discussing the current state of Animal Crossing: New Horizon. In her video, Kora suggested that the only way to save ACNH and bring the dev’s interest back to the game is through Micro-transactions.

She suggested that just like the mobile variant of AC, New Horizons should also start charging for in-game items. But this doesn’t mean that the game should become a pay-to-win or pay-to-unlock features, kind of game.
She even suggested that Loot Boxes will also be a bad decision. So the only way to save the game would be to charge money for in-game furniture or cosmetic items.
Kora suggested that monetizing the optional items such as clothing and furniture could be a healthy practice and won’t anger the fanbase but it will be a good way to bring the dev’s attention back to the game.
