Another Game of the Year in the Making? “It Takes Two” Director Stirs Anticipation With a BTS Sneak Peek

The developers of 2021 Game of the Year, It Takes Two, have stunned the internet with a cheeky sneak peek at their brand new project with a behind the scene shot. It Takes Two has been a commercial and a critical success, selling over 10 million copies so far, becoming one of the best-selling co-op games of all time. 

Back in 2020-21, when the world was knee-deep in chaos, people were stuck inside their homes, begging for a sweet release from their misery. In a tumultuous time like this, Hazelight Studios, in cooperation with Electronic Arts, released It Takes Two, a co-op game that made history. 

After It Takes Two, is Hazelight working on another masterpiece? 

On April 27, 2023, the Founder of Hazelight Studios, Josef Fares, shared a behind the scene shot with the caption, “Just another day at the office.” In the shot, we could see a group of mo-cap artists “T-posing” in their suits. This single pic made the entire community believe Hazelight is making another spectacle. 

Not only It Take Two, but Hazelight is also responsible for two other highly acclaimed co-op games, A Way Out and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. Fares wrote and directed all these titles. Looking at the studio’s magnificent history of making spectacular co-op games, the fans believe their next title could also be of the genre.

The creator of last year’s game of the year, Elden Ring, Hidetaka Miyazaki has also extolled It Takes Two. In an interview, he said, “It didn’t let up throughout, and it never let me get bored. The art and gameplay are different in each stage, and the game encourages you to cooperate across its entirety yet still maintains that artistic element. It’s continually fun to play and felt extremely fresh to me right up until the end, which was impressive to me as a fellow creator.”

What is Hazelight’s next game?

Back in September 2022, Josef posted a picture on his social media with the caption, “Sneak peek of the next game”. The picture was very similar to the one he recently shared. In the picture, Fares could be seen posing with two female Mo-cap artists. This picture made the fans come up with wild theories, as one of them even said, their next may be named, “Sisters: A Tale of Two Daughters?”
