Nintendo plans for the 2.1 update in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
After introducing the 2.0 update, Nintendo has introduced four minor updates. All four updates are minor updates intentionally released to fix in-game glitches. Surprisingly, developers even added more features, items with the recent 2.0.4 update. Interestingly, according to some data miners’ reports, some of the 2.0.4 content was planned for the 2.1 update.
These include features like new Zodiac sign items, new spawn location of Gyroid fragments, and much more. Moreover, all these features were not introduced in the 2.0 update or mentioned in the patch notes before.
Not to mention, the 2.1 update won’t be a minor update but will be a major update adding a lot of content. Hence, the only possible explanation that Nintendo didn’t introduce these features with the major update is because it’s unfinished.

The 2.1 update was supposed to be released in December with the winter update. However, users only received the 2.0.4 update, which was intentionally released to fix in-game bugs. Thus, Nintendo wasn’t quite finished adding the thing it planned earlier before the holiday. Because of that, developers have to delay the release date of the update.
In addition to that, it also proves why minor updates contain so much content other than bug fixes. Furthermore, it also suggests that more content might arrive in the future with the 2.1 update. Regardless, these are just speculations, so please believe it with a grain of salt.
