Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the second-highest selling title for the Switch
Nintendo recently announced that between October to December 2021, it saw the highest quarterly sales since the launch of Nintendo Switch. This is at the same time when the 2.0 update and the expansion pack, Happy Home Paradise, were launched. Among all the previously released titles, ACNH secured the second-highest selling title after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (sold 7.7 million units).
Nintendo officially confirmed that last year ACNH sold 5.0 million units. Indeed, this is a huge amount, especially considering the fact that several veterans already quit the game because of the lack of in-game content. Interestingly, 5.0 million is not even half of the units New Horizons sold in 2020.
Just after releasing ACNH, Nintendo announced it sold 11.77 million units by March 31, 2020, and 13.41 million units after six weeks on the market. This helped New Horizons reach another milestone by making it the best start ever for a Nintendo Switch title by the end of 2019.

Hence, one can naturally say that there was a huge downfall in ACNH’s performance if compared to 2020. However, even after being released for over a year and still managing to sell 5 million units is very impressive. Thanks to the 2.0 update, Nintendo was still able to redeem ACNH and sell enormous units.
