Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become one of the most popular titles of the entire Animal Crossing series. Furthermore, with the release of the 2.0 update, Nintendo added a bunch of new features to attract more users. Interestingly, developers added one new item which completely changed the process of ladders in New Horizons.

With the recent update, you can obtain Set-up ladders in ACNH. A ladder is a tool you can craft and equip to climb up and down cliffs. Although ladders play an important role in the game, before the 2.0 update, you had to carry ladders with you every time. However, now you can easily place a set-up ladder beside a cliff to climb the next tier cliff.

Set-up Ladder’s importance in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

By placing Set-up ladders or Permanent ladders on your island, you don’t have to worry anymore about pulling out your ladder to get up and down. Moreover, visitors to your island can get around your island without needing their own ladder. After introducing the Set-up ladders mechanic, maximum players stopped carrying normal ladders with them.

In addition to that, permanent ladders require very little space, don’t take too long to construct, and are also not limited to an arbitrary limit. All you have to do is stand next to a cliff and select the set-up kit from your pocket to place them. Interestingly, you can also place permanent ladders on the third cliff; however, the game will prohibit you from climbing to the fourth tier.

How to get Set-up ladders for yourself?

Nintendo has introduced four types of permanent ladders in ACNH, and they are all DIYs. Since they are all DIYs, you can get them similarly to most DIYs.

For the Wooden-Ladder setup kit, you can purchase the DIY recipe from Nooks Cranny for 2,000 bells. Furthermore, you can also find the DIY from Kapp’n mystery islands and Happy Home Paradise washed up on the beach. The ladder comes in six variants; these are natural, blue, red, yellow, green, and white.

Interestingly, the only way to get these DIYs is by catching your villagers off guard while crafting them. Thus, this DIY might be very tough to get and will also require constant visits to your villagers’ houses. This ladder comes in three variants: silver, red, and brown.

Similar to Iron Ladder, the Golden Ladder setup kit can only be obtained from villagers crafting. Therefore, you will have to visit them multiple times to get both Golden and Iron Ladder setup kits from your villagers. It has no other color variant except gold.

Vine Ladder setup kit

The Vine Ladder setup kit is actually part of the vine DIY set. It requires five vines to craft; not to mention, you can get the DIY recipe from DIY bottles washed up on Kapp’n’s islands. However, you can only get this DIY if you are on Vine and Glowing Moss mystery island, which is completely random and has an 18% chance of appearing.

Interestingly, if you have purchased the ACNH paid DLC, you can easily obtain the DIY recipe as it frequently washes up to your Happy Home Paradise beaches. It comes with three variants: light-brown, white, and dark brown.
