The popular gaming giant Sega is one of the oldest video game developers in the world and is most popular for its iconic Sonic gaming franchise. Just a few months back, the Japanese gaming giant shared its desire to sell NFTs, but they had no clue about the consequences. Speaking of consequences, Sega’s this decision has landed them in the troubled waters.

The company is having a hard time dealing with this problem. Basically, the Japanese giant’s decision has resulted in lots of backlash from the entire gaming community. And as of now, it’s quite clear that the fans have no interest in NFTs. What’s surprising is the company could also roll back the decision post the fan’s backlash.

On January 7, 2021, the Japanese gaming giant announced they could cancel the plans for NFTs sales. Moreover, they will also stop all the plans and policies related to their Play-to-Earn schemes. All this is mainly because of fans’ negative feedback.

Sega entered the NFTs market by teaming up with blockchain game developer Double Jump.Tokyo. The Japanese gaming giant had plans to sell NFTs related to their IPs and future projects as well.

Sega on dropping the NFTs sales and more

Ever since Sega’s NFTs announcement, the company received negative feedback from the fans. And some fans might be familiar with the fact that it’s exactly the same case with all the other gaming companies who introduced NFTs as a part of gaming.

For example, the France-based legendary gaming company Ubisoft also announced NFTs and faced the same thing: that Sega is going through now.

According to the popular site nintendolife, here’s what the company officials have to say about it,

“In terms of NFT, we would like to try out various experiments and we have already started many different studies and considerations but nothing is decided at this point regarding P2E [Play-to-Earn].”

So as of now, Sega’s leading officials have confirmed nothing about canceling the NFTs sales. But the good part is at least they are acknowledging all the negative feedback and backlashes from the fans.
