Xbox fans will be disappointed to hear this news. Two great GOTY contender titles of this year were originally approached to get published under Xbox. However, the plan didn’t work very well and Xbox rejected both projects. These two titles were later released and made quite an astounding result among the players.

Microsoft’s Activision deal caused a lot of controversy about CoD titles’ access. But the Xbox chief granted access to MW 2 to PS players. But who knew Xbox rejected two other titles that might make its victory to GOTY 2023? Want to know which these two titles are?

Recently, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 received an overwhelming response from the fans. However, what would it sound if we told you that this game was approached to Xbox? Yes, Jay Ong, the executive vice president and head of Marvel revealed in a book that the project was offered to both Xbox and PlayStation. However, only PlayStation accepted the offer. This is probably the reason why no Marvel games are ever seen under Xbox’s banner.

On the other side, Marvel’s next project, Wolverine is gearing up to surprise fans as another great PlayStation blockbuster. However, it is not just Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Remedy Entertainment’s popular release Alan Wake II was also turned down by Xbox.

In 2019, Microsoft handed over the IP of Alan Wake to Remedy. This was because the company didn’t see any prospects for the franchise. After Microsoft’s rejection, the full IP of the Alan Wake franchise went back to Remedy.

Initially, Alan Wake’s debut game was released on Xbox 360. The problem arose when Xbox denied the sequel’s funding. However, Alan Wake II was also released on PC, Xbox, and PS. And now with the success of both the titles, Xbox fans are somewhere upset. 

Fans share mixed reactions to the news

Xbox’s rejection to release Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 brought mixed reactions among fans. People were disappointed but they ultimately felt relieved seeing these two most-awaited titles getting a better platform for release- “And they found a better home.”

Some fans commented that Xbox prioritizes real video games over cinematic ones. 

People commented that they are happy because both the Alan Wake titles are playable on Xbox devices-“News flash: You can still play both Alan Wake games on the Xbox, lmao.”  Xbox fans commented about how they don’t find Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 as one of the year’s best games.
