Pokemon is a name that needs no introduction. The franchise is one of the biggest in the entire world and one of the most profitable IPs owned by Nintendo. So it is ironic that Nintendo’s one of the most well-known franchises is related to its most “obscure” console ever. Yes, we are talking about Pokemon Mini.

Pokemon Mini was released back in 2001 and unfortunately, it was soon forgotten. The reasons are poor marketing, expensive games, and many more. And compared to the Game Boy Advance which was released at the same time, the Mini’s tiny black-and-white screen felt like a relic of the past.

But ever since Analogue opened up its Analogue Pocket platform to developers, Pokemon mini is seeing a new light of hope. The fans used the modern technology of the Analogue Pocket to give the games on the console a brand new life.

How did fans port Pokemon Mini games into Analogue Pocket?

When Analogue opened up its platform for developers, there was a flood of ported FPGA cores. This included NES, SNES, Mega Drive, and Neo Geo game ports. Most of these cores are still WIP projects, but that didn’t stop the community from pushing out new innovations. Adam Gastineau who is responsible for some of the other core ports, has just teased another cool development.

Adam teased a pokemon mini-exclusive game “Pokemon Psychic Seeds” on the Analogue Pocket. On October 12, 2022, posted a tweet featuring a video of him playing the game on his Analogue pocket. In the tweet, he said, “I needed a win, so here is the newly released Pokémon Mini core running on #AnaloguePocket.” He also credited @Karyuutensei who is the original creator of the FPGA core.

How did fans react to this amazing new innovation?

Fans were ecstatic seeing this new development from Adam. They were hit with a wave of nostalgia and joy as Adam shared the video on his Twitter. Everyone praised him for his skills and encouraged him for more in the future. Some of them couldn’t even believe that this was actually real. Nintendo’s most “obscure” console is finally witnessing some new light of hope.
