Destiny 2 creator Bungie seems to be in a pickle these days. Recently, they got a lot of negative publicity for laying off a bunch of developers. These developers included the legendary composer, Michael Salvatori. With a huge loss of developers, fans were already wondering how the company would carry on with the development of Destiny 2 and the upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive marathon.

But it looks like the state of Marathon is not as good as fans had hoped. Bungie’s recent title seems to be something that many gamers are not loving. Even before getting an official trailer, the game is garnering a lot of negative responses.

Before any game launches or is even revealed, a developer and publisher decide to show it to a very selective crowd of gamers. The first ever feedback they get is from the playtesters, who give technical as well as feedback from a gamer’s POV. Many developers are known to listen to game testers when it comes to making some crucial changes to their titles.

Then come the selective people from the gaming community. Some reliable journalists, and nowadays, streamers too, get to play these upcoming games and tell developers how it went. Bungie did the same with Marathon. They showed the game to a bunch of Escape from Tarkov streamers, and they refused it straight away.

Bungie asked them who would like to play Marathon if it drops as soon as tomorrow. They did not see a single hand from streamers. This is not good for the company that was once hailed for creating two of the best franchises ever, Halo and Destiny.

It would have to be seen how this goes in the feature; there’s no update on when this test was held. Maybe they changed stuff since then? Or maybe they have fired so many people to hire new developers to get a new perspective on it? What’s been going on with their other title, Destiny 2?

Destiny 2 is not doing very well either

It was reported a while ago that even Bungie’s live service title, Destiny 2, is in a lot of trouble. Ever since the company was taken over by Sony PlayStation, they have seen a player drop count as well as revenue earned through the game. It is being suggested that the revenue dropped by around 45%, which is not a small number.

Reportedly, Bungie laid off around 8% of its staff due to this fall in revenue. It can be anything. But one thing must be understood: no company fired a beloved composer who has worked with them for over 20 years for a small reason.
