This was just pointed out by fans when the game released a number of updates trying to mend things. With a number of patches and a few extra additions to the game, it now seems the developers might be trying to make the game survive.
Overwatch 2 getting several new patches since its release
Overwatch was a literal masterpiece when it was released, making it even the winner for Game of the Year 2016. But as time passed, the game got a little deviated from its path due to its unnecessary updates. This in turn made fans mad at the game, eventually dropping the number of players it had over the years.
So as Overwatch 2 was announced, fans thought things might change for good this time around. But unfortunately, it wasn’t the case, and fans got a really broken game that needed a lot of patchwork. Now, with Blizzard Entertainment finally taking the charge of the messy launch, they promise to give some additional stuff alongside the patches to make up for the messy release.
According to their tweet, they said, “Besides making progress on bug fixes & stabilization, we’ve got goodies to share with all players. Health Pack Weapon Charm, Cursed Captain Reaper, [and] 2x Match XP weekends.”
Why is the game getting so much backlash?
After the release of the game, fans pointed out that the game is just an update on the original game. That means most of the characters are the same and the power-ups haven’t changed as much either.
Thus Blizzard entertainment released a statement saying, “We apologize for any issues players experienced around the game’s launch. To help make up for any lost time, we’re planning to run several Double Match XP weekends: we will confirm the specific dates for these soon. We’ll also be giving all players who log in from October 25 through to the end of Season One an all-new Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary skin and a Health Pack Weapon Charm. These items will become part of your collection from the first time you log in during that time window.”
