Kick has been poaching big names from Twitch to stream on their platform. After xQc joined Kick, the most-watched female streamer on Twitch last year, Amouranth, also decided to join Kick.

She has been the top creator for Twitch for multiple years, and this decision to join a rival platform may seem confusing to fans. However, the streamer has come forward to explain the policies of Twitch which she feels are counter-productive.

It is no new information that streamers have been voicing their concerns about Twitch and its new policies. Multiple streamers have commented on how the platform’s new policies give back less to them. But Amouranth believes the main problem with Twitch is how they are treating their business model. She said, “Twitch’s “sin” isn’t trying to squeeze their creators”. Twitch revolves completely around live-streaming creators. This market is far smaller than pre-recorded creators market like YouTube.

The platform, however, decided to mimic the business model of apps catering to bigger markets and this resulted in them deciding to squeeze streamers. Amouranth believed this was due to Twitch’s parent Amazon trying to make this platform as profitable as their other products. But the streamer feels this became counter-productive.

She also proposed a solution for Twitch. The platform should grow its target market or refresh its business model and monetization engine according to her. The current model cannot sustain the platform. She said, “Taking an incremental share of streamer earnings is ham-fisted, and you can’t cut your way to profitability that way (math it, chasm too wide)”.
