Alan Wake 2 is the sequel to the game that was released in 2010. The first title remains one of the most popular horror games in the community to this day. It has received ports to the current generations of consoles. It will take some big shoes to fill for Alan Wake’s sequel.
With a game that is 13 years in the making, Remedy Studios had made claims to have created an amazing title. The story builds on the first game, yet does not require players to have played the first one to get a hang of the plot.
The game adds a second playable character, Saga Anderson. Anderson is investigating murders as something unusual happens to her. She finds herself stuck in a horror story written by the missing Alan Wake. Meanwhile, Alan Wake remains trapped in the Dark Place. He is trying to escape the mysterious entity bent on him.
The two stories run parallel, with players being able to control both protagonists. But what makes this game more effective is its promise to not just throw horror in the dark, but include different elements. It includes a mystery to unravel as well as characters to interact with.
In the director’s words, “Darkness equals horror, but there are daytime scenes, quirky characters, plenty of humor, and a deep mystery to explore. With this, we feel, when it gets scary, it will stay fresh throughout the whole game, and you won’t get a chance to get used to it or become numb to it.”

Alan Wake 2 is set to be a reconciliation between the original Alan Wake and Remedy Studios title Control. The DLC expansion brings Alan Wake and the town it is set in, Bright Falls, into the picture, as fans of Control may remember.
Alan Wake 2 dives into a genre
The sequel to Alan Wake takes a new direction with the way the game is structured. Remedy Studios took an interesting step, leaning towards survival horror. This is the first time the developer will be working on a survival horror game.
It should be no surprise that Remedy has chosen to go with survival horror. Of late, horror games lean towards the survival horror genre. It allows for a newer way of story-telling, especially for mysteries. Titles find success in this genre, Resident Evil 4 Remake being the best example of that.
