Age of Empires IV was released on October 28. In a span of a few days itself, the game has managed to rapidly gain an astounding player count. As per Steamdb, the player count of the game peaked with a total of  69,366 players.

It is important to note that these players are those who play using Steam. The player count can be much more when it includes the players who use Xbox Game Pass.

Age of Empires IV’s success

This sudden peak has caused the game to break records held by previous juggernauts in the Steam charts. This includes Destiny 2, Civilization 6, Ark of Survival, and Warframe. The player count of Age of Empires IV is all the more impressive considering its predecessor. Age of Empire peaked at a player count of 20,146 players. This means that the latest installment in the series has racked up thrice the player count.

The game has also been well received. The title was rated an impressive 4/5 stars by NME. The review stated,”Across various campaigns and conquests, you’ll spend plenty of time pondering the existential nature of stone walls – specifically, how to preserve (or end) their existence.” 

The review also conveys the understanding that the game has something for everyone. Be it a casual player or a player dedicated to the campaign.

From starting off with a small town with a few villagers, the player will need to gather resources, build the town, and create a strong militia. The opponent player will also be doing the same. And it is up to the player to upgrade their strategy and doctrine in order to win.
