The Silent Hill franchise never saw another mainline entry after 2012. We have seen many famous games over the years that were in development, but never released. Some notable instances include Star Wars 1313, Rainbow Six Patriots, Prey 2, Rockstar Secret Agent Game. There might be various reasons, like pressure from other projects, insufficient investments, or a lack of public interest.
In a similar fashion, nine years ago, a highly anticipated game was cancelled after the release of a teaser demo version. Predicted to be one of the best horror games of all time, the full game never came to fruition.

Konami planned to release another installment in their horror-anthology franchise, Silent Hill, in 2014. They hired video game designer Hideo Kojima to help develop it. Furthermore, Kojima Productions, under the codename “7780s Studio”, released a demo named P.T. (Playable Teaser), which served as the teaser of the highly anticipated project.
P.T. was released to give the players a taste of the bone-chilling experience of what was to come. They released it on August 12th, 2014 on PlayStation 4. This game was free to play and available on the PlayStation Network. But the game, which had a bright future ahead, never saw the light of day. Extremely unfortunate, considering how promising the title looked, and the big names it would’ve featured, including The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus!
9 years ago today at @gamescom, the innovative P.T. demo was released by Hideo Kojima on PS4 to reveal the SILENT HILLS project with @RealGDT and Norman Reedus.

As per reports, Kojima and his senior staff had planned to leave the company following the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This looked more real when they had begun to remove Kojima’s name from the then-highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid V. Moreover, reports suggested it had something to do with Kojima’s high budget for Phantom Pain, and increasingly high demands.
“One of the greatest gaming tragedies,”- Fans express disappointment
Fans are still disappointed, as nine years ago, it denied them what could have been one of the greatest horror titles of all time.
