WOW, or World of Warcraft, might just be the longest-running MMORPG of all time. The game has been running steadily ever since its inception in 2004. Over these years, two things have been very consistent with WOW: Blizzard has continuously launched expansions for it, and it has only been playable on PC. But a recent conversation with one of its developers suggests something else altogether.
In a recent conversation with WOW’s executive producer, it was revealed that the developer might be planning a console version after all. It was also suggested that the console version of this long-running game had never been off the table.
WOW might finally make its way to the Xbox consoles very soon!

Longtime fans of WOW would be interested to know that Microsoft and Blizzard are probably talking about bringing this game to Xbox consoles. There hasn’t been any official confirmation as of yet, but there are a number of things making it a sure-shot thing. For one, Microsoft now literally owns Blizzard, and they would surely want one of Blizzard’s longest-running games on their Xbox consoles. And the other thing is that the game’s executive producer, Holly Longdale, has literally hinted at it.

When Holly was questioned about a console port during Blizzcon 2023, she explained how the studio is currently busy with the upcoming expansions of the game, yet they are still considering an Xbox port. She said, “We’ve got these three expansions, and we are so excited about them. But, yeah, of course. It would be very insincere to say that we’re not, like, of course we’re talking about that,” she further added, “We are Microsoft now.”

It would be very interesting to see such a huge game finally making its way to Xbox after over 20 years of its release. One thing that everyone is curious to know is if Blizzard would bring the same version of the game to Xbox as Windows.
What about bringing the game to Game Pass, though?
Holly was also asked about WOW’s availability on Microsoft’s Game Pass service. She replied by saying that they had not started that conversation as of yet. It has to be seen if they change their stance on this.

One must note that unlike most MMOs today, WOW is not a free-to-play game. It is a game that can be accessed by paying Blizzard either a monthly charge or buying yearly subscriptions and such. A number of this game’s expansions are also completely paid; hence, bringing it to the Game Pass might mean diminishing the earnings they make from those monthly subscriptions.
