The highly anticipated Super Mario Bros. movie got postponed to spring 2023 with new global release dates. According to the latest announcement, it’ll debut on 28th April in Japan, and on 7th April 2023 in North America. Earlier today, the legendary Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, announced the same via the Nintendo American Twitter handle.
The new release dates were mutually decided post-Miyamoto’s consultation with his Illumination’s partner and co-producer, Chris Meledandri, as stated by the Mario creator himself. Expressing his deepest apologies for the delay, Miyamoto promised the wait’s gonna be worth it. Moreover, he didn’t disclose the real reason behind the postponement and shared no further details.
This is Miyamoto. After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.

A delayed movie is eventually a good movie. A rushed movie is bad forever.

This reminds me of a classic quote from Shigeru Miyamoto, "A delayed g̶a̶m̶e̶ movie is eventually good, but a rushed g̶a̶m̶e̶ movie

Awesome! That means it will be released 30 YEARS after the 1993 Super Mario Bros. film! If I've waited that long, I can wait a few more months. Let's-a go!
