Fans are loving The Last of Us series as it has enough original bits to keep fans of the game invested and is faithful enough to get its original message across.

Striking for this kind of balance is never easy, and the fact that the creators of this series have found this balance is nothing short of a miracle. And maybe that’s why it has become successful enough to earn a second season. But the big question is, would one season be enough to tell the story of Part II in completion?

Would The Last of Us need a third season to justify Part II?

The Last of Us is a complex tale of human relations. It shows their form, and it shows where they lead. It shows how loss affects humans and it also shows how losing someone special affects us.

It’s a story that was around 12-15 hours in its video game form and it would probably take 10 in its series form. Those would be enough to tell this story with every minute detail present.

Part 2 tells a story of how fragile humanity is. It tells the story of vengeance and violence that follow it. This sequel to The Last of Us was double in size. Its story was longer and was more crowded with characters, minor and major.

It would be hard to tell the story of Part 2 completely in those 10 episodes. For HBO and the showrunners to be able to tell that story with the same effect as the first season, they would need at least two more seasons.

Fans would hate to see if any of the details from the story of Part 2 gets excluded from season 2. Over that, the showrunners have proven with episode three of season 1 that they are willing to go above and beyond the original game to bring more depth to this story.

The story of part 2 can be structured into two seasons

The writers of season 2 can go about telling the story of Ellie in season 2 and then go on to tell Abby’s side and the conclusion in season 3.

As both sides have numerous characters for us to get familiar with, this process would give viewers enough time with all of those characters. We are also expecting the makers to explore that cult in more depth, just the way they explored Bill’s relationship.
