Call of Duty Modern Warfare II might be the latest game available from Activision, but the publisher is still treating some of its old titles quite well. Just recently, it rolled out a significant update for a three-year-old game that was released way back in 2020.
This game is none other than Treyarch’s Black Ops Cold War. It was originally launched in late 2020 and featured an intriguing campaign alongside the classic zombies experience. For a long time, the seemingly aged installment was lying unchecked in terms of necessary updates from devs. However, this pattern just changed recently with a huge surprise.

The current rumors for this year’s rumored Modern Warfare II are already floating across the internet. On the other hand, MWII is getting constant releases of fresh content, given the fact that it’s the latest premium offering. Meanwhile, older titles such as 2019’s Modern Warfare and 2021’s Vanguard are hardly getting any attention now. A major reason for this could be that both these games have somehow lost their popularity among the fans.
Surprisingly, though, there’s still one specific game, which is now enjoying a sudden surge in its player base, even 3 years after the initial debut. Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War recently went free-to-play on PlayStation’s subscription service. This decision has resulted in many franchise lovers showing a newfound interest in this iconic entry.
A few weeks ago, however, the game was suffering from a major hacking-based situation. It got resolved after a while, thanks to a small update. But the Cold War has just recently received another update to address even more issues. What’s important to note is that the newest update is quite massive, to say the least, especially for a game that came out nearly three years ago.
A new security update has been released for all platforms.
Additionally, party privacy settings for all users are now set to "Friends Only" by default.

Speaking of the latest patch, it weighs around 6 GB on the PlayStation 5. On the other hand, players on PC have found it to be close to 16 GB. This means it packs a lot more this time, to strengthen the overall security. The devs have finally made a big change to ‘Party Privacy’ settings. By default, it’s now set to “Friends Only” for all users.
In other words, regular users won’t have to worry about encountering unwanted people while entering into a match anymore. Previously, this option was set to public. This allowed many hackers to invade a player’s game and affect them in numerous ways.

All things considered, the rollout of this update shows that Activision still cares about its older offerings. But it was a necessary step to take as well, given that many new players are now starting to explore Black Ops Cold War lately. It will be interesting to see how long it will maintain the ongoing rise in its popularity.
