However, last year’s Modern Warfare II from Activision and Infinity Ward has proved that the celebrated saga can still mesmerize by taking a new route. While most of the Campaign missions in the latest Call of Duty title follow a strict linear design pattern, two of them really stand out for offering a sort of ‘free format’ to the players. In other words, there’s a little hint of what an open-world CoD game could be like by having a look at these two specific quests under the single-player mode.

An open-world Call of Duty game could change the fate of the series going forward

In case anyone missed out on noticing this detail, Modern Warfare II‘s two missions, namely ‘Recon By Fire’ and ‘Alone’, consist of an open-world aspect attached to them. And it is very evident from the way they give some special options to the players for completing the objectives in more ways than one.

Both of them share similarities in terms of offering alternative pathways to approach the enemies or craft items specific to a given task. Talking specifically about Alone, then it can be called a welcome step for the Call of Duty series. Because the developing team really took time in order to design it in a unique manner, compared to the general method of designing the fast-paced quests under this franchise.

Now taking the aforementioned missions of Modern Warfare II into consideration once again, it’s quite clear how an open-world title would actually work out in case Activision decides to green-light such a project.

All things considered, such a step will only make the action-packed series more appealing to those players who like to craft their own ways of completing the missions in a game. And if they get a vast area to explore in order to strategize even better for finishing a given quest, it will be just amazing, to say the least.
