Call of Duty is all set to release its much-awaited title Modern Warfare II. The response from its open beta early access made the curiosities of the anticipated player clear, as the players were completely impressed by the improvised and new gameplay. However, a provision regarding the players to enter a phone number had recently raised some eyes.

To clarify, the provision required the players to link their phone numbers to their Battle.net and Steam accounts. Moreover, the phone number had to be on a postpaid service, as there had been past cases of people with prepaid and VoIP numbers facing issues.

Furthermore, SMS Protect (Activision-Blizzard’s phone verification system) is designed strictly for text-enabled mobile phones. Nevertheless, another development has been released by Activision Blizzard to combat the discrepancies.

Call of Duty fans on console gets relief from Activision Blizzard’s latest update

It is important to note that Activision Blizzard intends to roll out these developments in good light, for they intend to combat toxic players. As this step would limit the number of accounts that a player can create, inevitably making them accountable for their actions. And another recent development is an effort made by them to make the gaming experience more feasible.

In a recent blog post, Activision said, “A text-enabled mobile phone number is required to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II on PC. Existing Call of Duty®: Warzone™ players that have previously verified their account will not be required to provide any additional information to access Modern Warfare II and Warzone™ 2.0.”

Furthermore, they declared, “The SMS policy for Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 on Battle.net is the same as the requirement for Call of Duty: Warzone on PC, which was implemented in May 2020. A mobile phone number must be linked to your Steam Account to play Modern Warfare II on that platform.”

Above all, the company has made it clear that the SMS requirement is only for security purposes. And that it does not intend to use the SMS verification data for marketing purposes. Notably, the PC players would have to follow the above provision until further notice comes, if any.

Therefore, this piece of development comes as a relief for the gaming community. Most importantly, this development becomes crucial as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II readies itself to unleash on October 28, 2022.
