The Twitch star Shroud returned to eSports after four long years. His return to the professional scene was one of the biggest news this year. The whole gaming community was thrilled about it. But things turned out differently from expectations.

Last month, the Valorant eSports team Sentinels revealed their team member, Hunter “SicK” Mims, won’t compete in the North America Last Chance Qualifiers 2022. So, they got a replacement to fill that vacant seat. To everyone’s surprise, it was Shroud who filled the vacancy.

Michael Grzesiek, famously known as Shroud, is one of the most famous eSports players. He rose to glory as a professional Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player and for his exploits with eSports team Cloud9. However, he left the professional scene in 2017 to focus more on streaming.

Shroud’s comeback match in the Valorant tournament

Grzesiek, after quitting professional eSports, became a successful Twitch streamer. So his huge fanbase wanted to see him play in the professional scene after four years. It’s reported around 40,000 fans appeared to witness his comeback at the North America Last Chance Qualifiers 2022.

Sentinels locked their horns against The Guard in the tournament’s first round. Shroud dominated the first map with a triple kill, which was a deja vu to his CSGO days. However, the comeback ended in disappointment after the opposition swept Shroud’s team on the next maps.

Sentinels were shown the exit door in the first round, losing 2-1 to The Guard. It must have been sad for the thousands of Shroud fans who attended the event to see their star exit so early in the tournament.

Twitter calls Shroud over-rated

Many eSports experts and fans started calling Shroud over-rated after his early exit from the NA Last Chance qualifiers. The eSports historian, Thorin even claimed that Shroud was over-rated in both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and now Valorant. Although there are still some fans who support the 28-year-old. They claimed Shroud showcased a nice performance in the tournament after four years away from it. Some even claimed that he only had a month to practice with his team. Also, he couldn’t show his full potential because his task was to plant most of the bombs.
