Going back to your favorite game after decades is always exciting. Even more so, if the game returns with a whole bunch of new upgrades. While the community is spoilt for choices in recent times, the old-school titles never drop out of style. Many gamers began their journeys as kids who spent hours on their consoles after school. Now, fans rejoice, as a classic sci-fi action RPG makes its triumphant return. Star Ocean: The Second Story has received a new form and fans can’t stop talking about the legendary JRPG.
Over the years, Japanese RPG games have become a sort of industry benchmark with their exhilarating action. Star Ocean: The Second Story was the first game in the cult series that was released outside of Japan. Publishers Square Enix received additional help from indie devs and the result is taking the community by storm.

The Second Story R is released on all platforms, making it possible for everyone to jump back into the action. While taking cues from its 1996 predecessor, the second entry to the franchise also adds its elements. A new cast of characters, pre-rendered backgrounds, and motion video helped the game garner widespread appreciation across the world. Now, one of the contributors to Star Ocean: The Second Story R has shared the news of the game’s return on social media.
#StarOcean The Second Story R is now available on Nintendo Switch, PS5/4, and Steam. Gemdrops was responsible for the overall development.
It wouldn't be possible to describe in words how we feel right now. We appreciate all of your accolades. Thank you. #SO2R https://t.co/BtYCy9VG0k— Gemdrops (@Gemdrops_EN) November 4, 2023
Star Ocean: The Second Story made incredible use of real-time strategy to firmly establish the reputation of the franchise. Players could take up the role of either Claude, the son of the main character of 1996’s Star Ocean, or Nedian Rena. Depending on the choices players make, the ending of the game can have different outcomes.
Naturally, the prospect of being able to play the fan-beloved game once again with all the upgrades and additional content is highly stimulating to those who remember the game from when it was originally released. While the original was released on the first PlayStation console, the Remake will be available on the Nintendo Switch, both PS5 and 4, as well as on PC.
Fans show their enthusiastic approval
Since the news broke, fans of Star Ocean rushed over to shower the devs for their efforts. John was one of those who played the original game and its memory lingered on. Now, the Remake once again makes him feel all giddy.
I am wildly excited about this game. I have always loved the original and consider it one of my favorite RPGs. The demo impressed me a lot and I am eagerly anticipating getting the game when I have some downtime to play it. It really appears that the dev team put a lot into it.
