It looks like the devs are somehow making playing Call of Duty a ‘heavy duty’ task in itself. At least that’s what one can say regarding the exponentially increasing sizes of the games in the FPS series, each year. Same is the case with Modern Warfare 3 as well. The latest situation is related to a recently rolled out update on PlayStation that wants to eat up storage as if it’s nothing.

Modern Warfare 3 is soon going to make its way globally, with all the content it has to offer. Media outlet CharlieIntel recently took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share crucial news. The website revealed that the devs have released a 100 GB update for Call of Duty app. It’s now live for Modern Warfare 3. However, there’s more to this update than meets the eye.

For PS4 users, there’s good news. After installing the update, the overall file size of the game will decrease by 20 GB for their consoles. But it’s the opposite for PS5 owners. The file size on their devices will increase by 20 GB. Also, what’s important to note is that the latest update is reportedly a Day 1 patch, in relation to its optimization for running smoothly.

For the uninitiated, last week was similar in terms of players getting frustrated by the increased installation size of Modern Warfare 3. Early reports claimed that it would consume around 220 GB of space on all the supported platforms, thanks to the ‘High-rez’ assets alongside the main content of Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies.

Later, however, it was clarified by the makers themselves. They stated that players can reduce the file size according to what they want to keep. The devs mentioned that the final overall size of MW3 will be actually smaller than the previous COD titles combined.

Players can manage the game’s content by going to a dedicated section. In COD HQ app, there’s the ‘manage files’ option of the launcher menu. There, they can eventually uninstall a specific content which they are not actively playing at a given time. Doing so will reduce the overall installation size.
