Animal Crossing hosts a repeating summer-time event every year that lets players grab a lot of fun items in exchange for bugs. The Bug Off event sends players on a bug hunting spree, some of which can sell for an ashtonishing number of bells!
Bug Off dates fall on the 4th Saturday of the Summer months, depending on where the player resides. So, players residing in the Northern Hemisphere get to participate in the event on the 4th Saturday of June, July, August, and September. The Southern Hemisphere, on the other hand, witnesses the Bug Off event during the months of November, December, January, and February.

The next event date, the third one this year, for the Northern Hemisphere is on August 27. So, without further ado, here’s a list of five things that players should keep in mind before the next Bug Off event date in Animal Crossing: New Horizons arrives!
Flick is a huge NPC of interest in Animal Crossing
Once the clock strikes 9 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons during a Bug Off event, speak to Flick in the Residential Services Plaza to start a challenge. The first challenge is free, but from then onwards, players will have to pay 500 bells to start a challenge. However, players can avoid the fee, if playing multiplayer. In fact, players can also participate in unlimited challenges.

Upon ending a challenge, players can sell the bugs they catch, to Flick for bell points. Flick will offer 150% more bell points for the bugs, compared to regular rate.
Catch as many bugs as you can during a challenge
As many veterans may preach, focusing on quality is something players shouldn’t do. Instead, grabbing as many bugs as possible will fetch them maximum profit. Moreover, catching 1 bug fetches 1 point while grabbing at least three bugs in a challenge will get a bonus 2 points.
Upon reaching a certain number of points, players will be eligible to receive a trophy. The trophy will be mailed to the player, the day after the event. Moreover, they can exchange points to grab exclusive Bug Off items from a list of rewards. Speak to Flick to exchange points for items.
Also, note that some bugs are easier to catch than others. According to players, Butterflies are the easiest to grab, when compared to Dragonflies, Grasshoppers, and Pond Skaters. So, make sure to focus on quantity and choose to go around the easier ones when the timer is about to run out!
Choose more areas for more bug spawns in challenges
Stink Bugs and Mantis spawn in areas of flowers, while Butterflies, Grasshoppers, and Dragonflies spawn more in open areas. For beetles, players should look for a lot of trees. A popular tip suggests players to keep a variety of areas near Resident Services to maximize bug spawns. This will let players collect a variety of bugs during the event.
Play the Bug Off event in Animal Crossing with friends
As mentioned before, playing the Bug Off event in Animal Crossing with friends will waive off the challenge fee entirely. However, it will also fetch some good extra bonus points! Players can make use of this opportunity to collect as many bugs as possible, together.
Note that, having too many friends can make it less efficient as the bug spawn rate remains the same as single player. Players can choose to duo with someone, which is an optimal case. However, 4 friends fiddling around can only make things slower!

When playing multiplayer, find a bug first before the challenge starts. As it happens, only one player needs to speak to Flick to start the challenge, and while he/she does so, a player can locate a bug from beforehand. They can then grab the bug as soon as the challenge begins, gaining an upper hand!
Be quick in a bug catching challenge of Animal Crossing
Keep moving throughout the challenge. Focusing on one particular area is not going to help, as the spawn rates vary extensively. Instead, move from one area to another as quickly as possible and return after sometime, allowing the bugs to spawn as much as possible.
