Happy birthday, PlayStation 5. Sony celebrated this big day with an official blog post to thank all the users and to talk about releasing its most played games. Without any doubt, Fortnite rules the roost, followed by Black Ops Cold War and FIFA 21.

Jim Ryan (PlayStation boss) also thanked all the fans for their support and patience. Since the first launch, the console mostly remained out of stock due to the global pandemic restrictions. He also highlighted the point that the company is working really hard to ship out as many units as possible to meet all the high demand.

Sony Interactive Entertainment targeted over 16 million units, but due to some issues, the number has been cut down to 15 million units.

According to the official blog post published by Sony, PS5 players have played over 4.6 billion hours on the console (collectively). The top 10 PlayStation 5 games based on the gameplay hours are:

  • Fortnite
  • Black Ops Cold War
  • FIFA 21
  • NBA 2K21
  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Destiny 2
  • MLB The Show 21
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Demon’s Souls
  • NBA 2K22

According to the list, Fortnite rules the first year of PS5 mainly due to the amazing collaborations they did this year. It’s definitely worth noting that this list is mainly based on the gameplay hours calculated from November 12, 2020, to 30th September 2021. So games that were released after this period are not considered and so the likes of highly popular games like FIFA 22 won’t have made quite the impression on this top 10 list.
