ESPN Announces a Documentary on Roger Federer

ESPN will be broadcasting ‘Roger Federer:  Everywhere is Home’ on December 17 at 8 pm ET. The documentary is based on the Swiss player’s five-match exhibition tour of Latin America against World Number seven Alexander Zverev. The program is a fascinating portrayal of the global face of tennis Federer. 

It will be hosted by Tom Rinaldi, the reporter for ESPN and main interviewers during the US Open. ‘Roger Federer:  Everywhere is Home’ is produced in collaboration with Federer’s management firm TEAM8.

“Before this trip, I’d interviewed Federer dozens of times, but on this trip, in planes, locker rooms and hotel suites, and through police motorcades, my understanding of him was almost completely recast,” Rinaldi said. “The reach of his fame, the reserves of his energy, the connection he has with fans – and the reservoirs of goodwill he engenders – all were unlike anything I’d ever witnessed.”

The tickets for all his matches were sold out and in Mexico, a record-breaking audience of 42,517 fans gathered to watch Roger Federer’s game. It was a new world record for the most attended tennis match.

“It was an unbelievable and amazing trip, each step along the way as the fans expressed their love of the sport and appreciation for the experience,” said Federer.“There were so many highlights, it was truly a magical adventure and a blast as well.”

However in the midst of all the success, the match in Colombia got canceled amid anti-government protests that triggered a curfew in their capital city of Bogota.

To make up for the loss of the Colombian tennis fans, Federer would financially compensate for their ticket purchases or reschedule another exhibition match in Colombia.

During his stay there World Number three Federer was embraced by tons of South American fans and it was his second trip to Latin America.

Further, Rinaldi continued to speak about Federer, he said, “At the end of the tour, after his fourth straight night with less than four hours sleep, having played his last two matches at altitudes above 7,000 and 9,000 feet, respectively, he was still the most energetic on his entire team. And more motivated than when he’d started.” 

Presently ‘Roger Federer: Everywhere is Home’ will only be broadcasted in America nothing has been stated about its airing on ESPN’s international channels and websites.
