The battle between Epic Games and Apple is in full swing. The heat went up a notch following Apple’s removal of Fortnite from the App Store. Epic further fanned the flames with its ‘Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite’ video. And now, Apple is back with harsh retaliation.
According to a new statement, Apple will be terminating all of Epic’s developer accounts and also ‘cut Epic off from iOS and Mac development tools’ on the 28th of August. The Epic Games Newsroom Twitter handle posted a tweet about the latest development on the situation.
Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store and has informed Epic that on Friday, August 28 Apple will terminate all our developer accounts and cut Epic off from iOS and Mac development tools. We are asking the court to stop this retaliation. Details here: https://t.co/3br1EHmyd8

For those of you who haven’t followed the situation, here’s a quick recap:
- Epic announced a bypass for its customers by offering them a direct gateway to purchase Fortnite V-bucks through their website.
- Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store and Google followed suit and removed Fortnite from the Play Store.
- Epic filed a lawsuit against Apple and Google.
- Epic Games released a video, mocking Apple’s iconic 1984 ad (with a tone similar to the dystopian world from George Orwell’s novel with the same name) with the hashtag #FreeFortnite. The Apple commercial meant to make a statement against IBM’s supposed monopolistic reign. And that is exactly what Epic tried to address through the video they made.
Cutting Epic Games off from iOS and Mac dev tools: How will it affect the involved parties?
Senior Editor for The Verge, Tom Warren, posted a tweet about this issue explaining the immediate consequence of the move.
Apple threatening to boot Epic Games' dev tools off iOS and Mac. This means developers would be forced to stop using Unreal Engine as Apple won't let Epic support it. This tells you everything you need to know about Apple the big old bully. https://t.co/6MOvXuy9Fl

People have been putting in their two cents on the issue as well:
Apple holding Unreal/Mac users at ransom is incredibly irresponsible and made me blessed I switched to the Windows/Microsoft ecosytem.

Seems like Apple wants to lose millions of developers that use Epic Games tools for development.

A valuable tool like Unreal Engine will be out of Apple’s reach soon. On one hand, a platform as big as iOS and Mac will be out of Unreal Engine’s clientele, thus dealing heavy damage to Epic. On the other hand, removing an essential tool as Unreal Engine will force the devs on Apple’s platforms to switch to alternatives, which may not prove fruitful.

Something tells us this is far from over. In fact, this will probably soon turn into something uglier. Epic Games is already rushing to courts to prevent this from happening.
