Elina Svitolina and Victoria Azarenka Set To Lock Horns At WTA Ostrava Open 2020

The J&T Banka Ostrava Open is all set to commence on October 17. The tournament saw some top names like Sofia Kenin pull out owing to the rising COVID-19 cases. However, the main draw offers some real action for tennis fans across the world.

Victoria Azarenka to face a hefty challenge

In the top half of the draw is Elina Svitolina, who’s the top seed. Petra Martic finds her name as the fifth seed at the event. Elise Mertens makes her way in the top half, seeded seventh. Fourth seed Victoria Azarenka is a significant name in the top half as well.

Svitolina and Azarenka have a bye for their respective first rounds. The two will meet in the semifinal of the tournament if they both avoid an early exit. Although, Elise Mertens will be the force to look out for in that half of the draw.

The second half is relatively easy

Karolina Pliskova, seeded two, is placed in the bottom half of the draw. Pliskova and Aryna Sabalenka both have a bye in the first round. Elena Rybakina and Anett Kontaveit are seeded six and eight, respectively. If there is no major upset in the tournament, Pliskova and Sabalenka will clash in the semi-finals.

Although the bottom half is not as competitive as the first half, we might still see some gripping action.
