Eddie Hearn, the man responsible for promoting Anthony Joshua, recently appeared in an interview with iFL TV. In the interview, Hearn brought into perspective the current ongoings in Heavyweight boxing.

Ever since ‘The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury beat Deontay Wilder earlier this year, the realm of Heavyweight boxing suddenly became abuzz with excitement. The fact that we may finally witness a title unification battle has driven all boxing fans to their emotional peaks.

However, before Tyson Fury can venture into the title unification bout with Anthony Joshua, he has to oblige to the trilogy pact between him and The Bronze Bomber. While the promoter for Anthony Joshua would like nothing better than Wilder stepping aside to pave way for a title unification ASAP, he knows that is something impossible. Acting on the same lines, he set up a fight between Pulev and AJ.

Explaining why an early title unification seems impossible, Earn took a hypothetical situation where Bob Arum, Tyson Fury’s promoter, would come to him with some good news. He said,

“….Arum would come to me and say, ‘Right. Spoke to Wilder. I can get him to step aside. Spoke to Pulev, [they’ll] be willing to step aside. Would you be willing to go straight into the Tyson Fury fight?’ I’ll answer that now. Yes! But, would Pulev step aside at his stage in his career? Probably. Would Wilder step aside? No, I don’t believe so. If you step aside, you’re saying you can’t win.

“You can’t wait in boxing”- Eddie Hearn

Carrying on with the interview, Hearn dove deep into his analysis of how the boxing world works to further explain the situation. He said,

“Look at what’s happened in the world, with [the coronavirus]. Anything could happen! You could step aside, watch AJ fight Fury, beat him, become world champion. And then, we’re getting out one of these [current global situation]! And boxing is off for six or seven months! You can’t wait in boxing.”

Hearn believes that in the boxing world, you can’t wait for the fight to get easier. Or the prize to get better. While Wilder could wait for the title unification bout, he can’t be sure whether the future will play out in his favor. For all we know, Joshua could head on for another fight, drop a title, and be available to fight Wilder when it’s too late.
