Haas F1 team principal Günther Steiner has confirmed that the team is continuing to investigate their development driver Santino Ferrucci. However, they are diverting their attention to other priorities for the time being.

the 20-year old American was handed a two-round ban from Formula 2 due to a number of incidents in Silverstone. This included colliding with Trident teammate Arjun Maini on-track and using his phone while driving the car from the paddock with one glove on.

The Trident team suspended Ferrucci and revealed that both he and his father had behaved inappropriately off-track through the weekend. They even put in a request to race with a political slogan on the car, advertising President Donald Trump. But the FIA refused, citing that such a move was against the rules.

On Wednesday, Trident terminated Ferrucci’s contract and disassociated themselves from him. However, Haas is yet to make any decision regarding his future.

“I don’t have a view on it now, and I don’t really want to explain anything, because we are looking into what actually happened and what the story is,” Steiner said.

“We need to listen to all the parties. For us to make a comment or do something, it is too early.

“At the moment my time is better spent working on this race and the next race before the summer break and then I will have time to look into it. It’s not at the top of my priority list, but obviously we are not ignoring it by any means.

“But it is still too early to make any comment. I would like to leave it at this for the moment until we know more and we have a clear picture of it.”

Ferrucci has been part of Haas’ junior team since their F1 debut in 2016. He made occasional test appearances at Silverstone and the Hungaroring over the past two years.

The American driver also raced in the IndyCar double-header round last month in Detroit. He recorded a best finish of 20th after retiring from the opening race.
